Lore & Background

Shadow Galactica's base of operations is Galactica Palace (ギャラクティカ・パレス, Gyarakutika Paresu), located at the Galactic Center, in Sagittarius Zero Star, and built around the Galaxy Cauldron, the birthplace of all life in the Milky Way. In the original anime adaptation, Shadow Galactica's base is Galaxy TV (銀河TV, Ginga Terebi). The Sailor Moon musicals state that Shadow Galactica has already conquered 80% of the Milky Way, and all 88 constellations—with only Sailor Moon's Solar System remaining. The organization's main reapers of starseeds are the Sailor Animamates (セーラーアニマメイツ, Sērā Animameitsu), ultimately led by Sailor Galaxia, with Sailor Chi and Sailor Phi serving as her direct lieutenants, and Sailor Lethe and Sailor Mnemosyne guarding the Galaxy Cauldron. Most Sailor Animamates bear names prefixed by the title "Sailor" followed by the name of a chemical element and the name of an animal, though Sailor Chi, Sailor Phi, Sailor Lethe, and Sailor Mnemosyne do not follow this pattern. Despite the titles, none of them is a true Sailor Guardian; they are explicitly artificial Sailor Guardians created by Galaxia from starseeds.

In Their Own Story

Sailor Galaxia, the self-proclaimed "Golden Queen of Shadow Galactica" and described as the Guardian of Solitude, lived on a small planet she deemed "trash" and was abused until her powers awakened. Without feeling purpose, she destroyed her planet and left in search of another homeland. She came upon Chaos in the form of Wiseman, who showed her the Galaxy Cauldron. She discovered that to gain control of the Galaxy Cauldron, she had to gather the Sailor Crystals, the starseeds of the Sailor Guardians of the galaxy. She created Shadow Galactica and began traveling to planet after planet, turning them into places of death and stealing starseeds. In her first conquest on Earth, she steals Mamoru's Golden Crystal; after that, she and her henchwomen steal the Sailor Crystals of each of the Sailor Guardians on Earth until only Usagi and Chibichibi are left. At the Galaxy Cauldron, Galaxia fights them, until Chaos attempts to kill Galaxia by blasting her off a cliff. Sailor Moon rescues her, and Galaxia realizes she has always really wanted love, not power. By accepting Usagi's offer of friendship, the bracelets which supplied Galaxia with life and power shatter, and she dies peacefully.

Led by the enigmatic Sailor Galaxia, this faction operates from distant galaxies with a singular, destructive purpose: to collect Star Seeds. These seeds are the life forces of planets and Senshi, granting immense power when harvested. The organization employs terrifying methods to achieve domination. Their soldiers, including lieutenants Phobos and Deimos, travel across worlds to strip warriors of their identities and powers. Unlike previous villains who sought specific artifacts like the Silver Crystal, Shadow Galactica seeks total cosmic control by extinguishing life itself. They often corrupt other Senshi, turning former allies into mindless servants under Galaxia's command. Their role in the conflict marks the climax of the story. By targeting every Solar System Senshi simultaneously, they force the Guardians to confront their ultimate limits. The faction embodies pure chaos and entropy, challenging the very concept of hope and friendship that defines the Sailor Guardians. Defeating them requires unity across space and time, culminating in a battle that determines the fate of all existence.
