Long ago in the Silver Millennium, Queen Metalia awakened and consumed the planet of Earth. The Moon Kingdom intervened, sealing the evil entity away within a dormant form that would eventually resurface on modern-day Earth through Queen Beryl. This ancient pact created the Dark Kingdom, an organization dedicated to harvesting negative energy from humans to restore their mistress's power. The Guardians are reincarnated souls who fought in the past war against this very threat. Their memories were sealed by Queen Serenity herself to protect them until they could be needed again. Luna and Artemis serve as advisors sent from the Moon Kingdom to guide these warriors, ensuring the cycle of rebirth leads to victory rather than another fall.

Rain slicked the Tokyo streets as a shadowy figure materialized before Usagi. The Youma hissed, claws dripping with corruption, demanding the girl surrender her heart's light. Usagi trembled but stood firm, clutching her compact tight. With a flash of pink energy and a shout that cut through the storm, she transformed. Her sailor uniform shimmered against the gloom, and she raised her Moon Stick, declaring that no darkness would extinguish hope tonight.

Reader's Guide

The saga begins when a talking cat named Luna discovers an ordinary schoolgirl holding the power of the Moon Kingdom. As Youma attack Tokyo, Usagi Tsukino transforms into Sailor Moon to protect civilians. She is soon joined by fellow guardians representing Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter as they battle the Dark Kingdom's minions. The antagonists are led by Queen Beryl, who serves the ancient evil Queen Metalia. Four powerful generals known as the Kings of Hell oversee operations on Earth, seeking the Silver Crystal to restore their mistress's strength. Tuxedo Mask appears intermittently to aid the team, though his true identity remains a mystery during this early conflict. The climax occurs when the Guardians confront Beryl and her generals directly. Usagi unlocks deeper memories of her past life as Princess Serenity while wielding the Silver Crystal. Ultimately, Metalia is sealed away again, and the Dark Kingdom falls, though fragments of evil remain for future threats to exploit in subsequent adventures.
